Most Fangirlish Post Ever

Note: following post very very tragic, so please avoid if you hate Glee. Or want to preserve your image of me as someone with a bit of dignity and gravitas.

I am SO OBSESSED with Glee right now (probably a side effect of end-of-semester stress, as I always tend to get obsessed with things when I have a lot of other shit to do). But, OMG! It is so good at the moment. I mean, there’s Faberry of course (and we even got the two of them in a bathroom together), not to mention Brittana is now canon (woo hoo), and the musical numbers have been awesome (mostly), Kurt just gets more and more impressive, even Finchel were slightly cute last week, and hello? RACHEL FREAKING BERRY.

So just for fun, here are my Glee top lists so far (episode 4 of season 2):

1) Rachel Berry – natch!
2) Kurt Hummel – Le Jazz Hot pushed him right up here
3) Quinn Fabray – Faberry can’t be avoided
4) Brittany Pierce – every word that comes out of her mouth is hilarious
5) Sue Sylvester – it’s not Glee without Sue
6) Santana Lopez – one tough cheerf**ker
7) Mike Chang – Sing! was done perfectly
8) Finn Hudson – Even though Finn is dumb, homophobic and ruining my Faberry, he is kinda hysterical (*cough* LEZBRO *cough*)

9) Dustin Goolsby – He’s only been in one scene and I can’t wait for more
10) Emma Pillsbury – She was better last season but still wearing those lovely collar clip necklace things – what are they called?

1) Artie Abrams – Someone give that boy a storyline that doesn’t involve being nasty to girls
2) Will Schuester – I love me some Mr Schu but he has been so dull this season so far – bring back April!
3) Mercedes – Hey Mercedes, can’t you back off and respect Kurt’s atheism? Nope, let’s drag him to CHURCH
4) Jacob Ben Israel - the image of his damp naked buttcheeks has scarred my fragile little mind
5) Sam Evans – back off Quinn boy! This is the season of QUINNDEPENCE! (But go right ahead with Kurt)

1) Rachel & Kurt – Get Happy / Happy Days Are Here Again
2) Rachel – The Only Exception
3) Kurt – Le Jazz Hot
4) Rachel – What I Did For Love
5) Mike & Tina – Sing!
6) Rachel & Sunshine – Telephone
7) New Directions – Toxic
8) Mercedes & Santana – River Deep Mountain High
9) Rachel – Papa, Can You Hear Me?
10) Finn & Rachel – With You I’m Born Again

OK I’m gonna stop now and go and do some ACTUAL WORK :-P

The Specials Are Pretty Special

// February 23rd, 2010 // 596 Comments » // Disability, Moviesandtv

If you haven’t seen the web series “The Specials” yet, you should check it out! It’s a reality show about five housemates with developmental disabilities living together in a share house in Brighton (four of the five have Down Syndrome).

It’s hilarious! I like Sam the best, he is really out there. Here’s one of my fave episodes where he falls for the Lady Boys of Bangkok:

The Specials – Episode 3 from KADA Films on Vimeo.

I think it’s great to have something like this that shows people with disabilities just going about their regular lives – socially, romantically but NOT medically. The creators are trying to get money together for Season 2, so support them any way you can!

Jack Of All Trades

Great article about a very interesting documentary currently screening at Palace cinemas nationwide. Jack Charles is a critically acclaimed Aboriginal actor and also a junkie and burglar, and this young Melbourne chap spent seven years filming him.

Liking this Aussie online magazine, The Blackmail, too!

Movies To Get Excited About

// October 28th, 2008 // 393 Comments » // Lesbian, Moviesandtv

With my summer holidays from uni only weeks away, I’m looking forward to seeing some great movies over the break and here are a few trailers of upcoming ones that look intriguing!

The Unborn looks like a truly freaky horror movie of old, has that Exorcist or Omen vibe, but with some lovely modern effects thrown in. Also it has Stringer Bell, aka Idris Elba, in it, though I only recognised his voice and not his face.

The Wire Is Freaking Awesome

// October 23rd, 2008 // 584 Comments » // Moviesandtv

I am currently completely obsessed with the US TV series, The Wire. Yes, I know I’m a bit late as it just wrapped up at the end of its fifth season. But it is great plowing through the DVDs – about to start on Season 3. It is such a great show, really lets its characters develop properly, and fascinating portrayal of a city. The main theme is essentially how human beings are shaped by the politics and structure of organisations, like a police department, a drug dealing gang, or a waterfront union. I highly recommend it! Be warned, you will be swearing like a motherf**ker after watching, mos def.

Recommended: The Golden Compass

I watched this movie last night, and after hearing numerous bad reports, I was prepared to be disappointed. But I thought it was fantastic! As a big fan of the books, I appreciated that the adaptation was pretty faithful, aside from toning down the religious overtones a bit. Nicole Kidman was perfect as Mrs Coulter and everything was beautifully rendered… so I heartily recommend it, but if you haven’t read the books yet, do yourself a favour and read those first because they ROCK!

Mr G – Naughty Girl Official Video

The following music video features home video footage sent in by fans of Mr G from all across Australia. It’s pretty hilarious. And it features my favourite chap, Toby, in a fetching shirt that reads “Do Me – I’m Famous”. GO TOBES!

Check out this great clip where Tina Fey endorses Hillary on SNL.

Tina is so fucking funny, I love her. And I am a Hillary supporter too! Go Texas and Ohio!! It’s not too late!

Have you ever read the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman? I highly recommend them. They are the most blasphemous children’s books ever created! And the first book – Northern Lights – has been made into a movie which is coming out later in the year. Of course it’s been renamed to its American title, The Golden Compass.

The first book is set in an alternate universe where humans have their soul on the outside, an external embodiment called a daemon. And the movie website now has a quiz where you can find out your own inner daemon.

Hmm, a hare, not very glamorous but perhaps appropriate? Have your say above. Not sure about the “modest” bit!

Tis The Season

Oscar Season is launching off tonight at around midnight with the announcement of the nominations for the 79th Annual Academy Awards®. I’m excited as always, especially since Ellen will be hosting this year – a long overdue honour in my opinion! I hope you are all mentally preparing for the upcoming annual Oscar Bash© at Jems HQ.

Anyway I thought I’d put my predictions for the nominations out again this year, just for fun. Italicised ones are my early winner predictions. Feel free to leave your predictions in the comments!
