Genius YouTube Idea

I just uploaded my first ever cheesy fan music video to YouTube (embedded below, but I warn you, very cheesy and probably of interest to NO ONE I KNOW) and was struck by an idea as I carefully entered all my disclaimers about “I don’t own this content blah blah blah”.

Why doesn’t YouTube allow uploaders to enter in the video copyright holder and enter in the audio copyright holder? Then those copyright holders could be notified and approve or disapprove the use of their material. If they approve, they get a portion of the Google ads proceeds from the video or can place in their own ad eg “buy this video here” or “watch more of this here”.

YouTube sort of does this by automagically detecting songs and putting in the iTunes link (I was quite impressed that it correctly identified my soundtrack) but why not give the uploaders the opportunity to do the right thing and the copyright owners the chance to make some money and promote their products in new ways?

Just a thought… and now the cheesy video!

My Viral Video

Just discovered that this YouTube clip of mine has had 32,000 hits thanks to Jan commenting on the ram, “They’re very horny, aren’t they?”.

Weirdness!

Harry: The Bathroom Sessions

Recorded these performances from Harry a few weeks ago while doing the morning bathroom routine. Watch and be amazed!

Chinese Song
In Australia, kids learn a second language from the first year of school. We got a choice of three and Harry picked Chinese (the other two choices were Vietnamese and Arabic, pretty cool huh?). Here’s Harry doing a Chinese song. I have no idea if a) this actually is Chinese and b) what on earth he is saying, but I like it!

Dinosaur Song (Crash, Boom, Thump)
After the success of the Chinese song, Harry followed up with another song that he learned at school. A very spirited rendition with scary actions!

Hoedown Throwdown
For his final number, Harry chose a cover of a popular track by Miley Cyrus. Archie has been obsessed with this song and for a couple of MONTHS we had to have it every morning in the car on the way to school. (We’ve moved on to “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift now – yes, Archie is a TWEEN!).

Happy Birthdays Abound!

Today is my little brother Sam’s birthday. He is 30! Amazing huh. And so, to embarrass him, here he is performing in all his glory, with no fancy egg laying graphics!!

Happy birthday Sam.

Also today is my dear friend Audrey’s birthday. She is EVEN OLDER than Sam! I don’t have much to embarrass her with except this photo of her aged 17…

1992 Audrey

Happy birthday Audrey.

You are both awesome, and also both look good with guitars. And have shaggy hair and stuff.

RIP Kirsty

It’s 8 years to the day since Kirsty MacColl was killed by a power boat at the age of 41. I still miss her – she had released a brilliant album just before she died and had so much more to give. Here’s one of her biggest hits, her cover of Billy Bragg’s “A New England”.

Still, no one has been held accountable for Kirsty’s death – see www.justiceforkirsty.org/

Birthday Videos

Harry had a lovely birthday party yesterday. It was our first time ever running party games like Pass the Parcel and Musical Chairs. That Musical Chairs is a vicious frenzied contest, there were tears and bruises galore. Maybe next year we’ll be brave enough for Pin The Tail On The Donkey.

Here’s a Harry birthday video for you (please ignore tuneless singing of camerawoman):

And one with much cuter singing:

And one of Archie ROCKING OUT (just for fun):

The YouTube account where I upload videos of the tiny offspring is here if you’re interested:

Sam’s Biggest Fan

Archie is absolutely obsessed with the Samuel Flynn Scott track, War Over Water. It all started when I posted the video to this blog a couple of weeks ago and Archie wanted to watch it every night before he went to bed. So then I played it to him on the stereo and now we have to listen to it roughly 50 times a day. Unfortunately as soon as it goes into the next track, he makes us skip back to War Over Water again. It says something for the brilliance of the track that I can still enjoy it!!

You want proof? Check out this clip… (sorry about the quality)
