The Specials Are Pretty Special

If you haven’t seen the web series “The Specials” yet, you should check it out! It’s a reality show about five housemates with developmental disabilities living together in a share house in Brighton (four of the five have Down Syndrome).

It’s hilarious! I like Sam the best, he is really out there. Here’s one of my fave episodes where he falls for the Lady Boys of Bangkok:

I think it’s great to have something like this that shows people with disabilities just going about their regular lives – socially, romantically but NOT medically. The creators are trying to get money together for Season 2, so support them any way you can!

The Wire Is Freaking Awesome

I am currently completely obsessed with the US TV series, The Wire. Yes, I know I’m a bit late as it just wrapped up at the end of its fifth season. But it is great plowing through the DVDs – about to start on Season 3. It is such a great show, really lets its characters develop properly, and fascinating portrayal of a city. The main theme is essentially how human beings are shaped by the politics and structure of organisations, like a police department, a drug dealing gang, or a waterfront union. I highly recommend it! Be warned, you will be swearing like a motherf**ker after watching, mos def.

Me & Jan are currently obsessed with the latest American series of So You Think You Can Dance. I am downloading it from the States immediately after it goes to air, the first time I’ve done that for a reality show. Unfortunately I have discovered the chances of getting spoiled are MUCH higher for reality shows. Sadly I keep accidentally finding out who has gone as the file is downloading. Bloody AfterEllen.com keep putting it in the ACTUAL TITLE of the post, so that there is no way to avoid it, apart from avoiding one of my favourite websites.

Anyway here are some of my favourite dances from the series so far:

Robert Muraine – Popper Audition
Mind blowing popper! Never seen anything like it!

Joshua and Katee – Bollywood
Funky groovy Bollywood greatness!

Twitch & Kherington – Contemporary
Music and dance blending beautifully!

Katee and Will – Pas de Deux
The two best technical dancers on the show doing the hardest routine ever attempted. Brilliant.

Argh there’s too many great ones! Better stop there.

Impressive as the Young Lion, Henry VIII, in the new series The Tudors. Very pretty in a new wave 80′s kind of way, which is my kind of way!

Especially when he played a drag queen in Bad Education. Astoundingly hot Latin goodness.

3. Christian Bale

Such dedication to his art, and such lovely eyebrows. Mysterious and possibly homicidal.

Maybe it’s the dance moves, maybe it’s the smoldering stare, or maybe it’s the association with Britney Spears, but JT is one hot dude.

Lost In Bittorrent

Only 2 hours and 17 minutes until the final episode of Lost Season 2 is downloaded to my computer! I am very excited. Three months ago I’d never watched a single episode. Then I watched Season 1 on DVD and after that was compelled to download all of Season 2 week by week. What can I say, I’m a sucker for “mythology” shows.

The continuing battle between South Park and Scientology has escalated a bit, allegations of Tom Cruise getting an episode pulled from repeats, and Isaac Hayes quitting over the show’s anti-Scientology episode. I was very amused however by a recent statement released by the show’s creators, Trey & Matt:

So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun! Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail! Hail Xenu!!!

Life’s Pretty Straight Without…

…a new gay girl tv show addiction! And yes folks, I’ve found a good one. It’s a new US cable teen show called South of Nowhere, and the main character is a teenage girl questioning her sexuality and having an intense relationship with her best friend. It’s great! I have downloaded all the episodes from here and am now completely hooked.
