With my summer holidays from uni only weeks away, I’m looking forward to seeing some great movies over the break and here are a few trailers of upcoming ones that look intriguing!

The Unborn looks like a truly freaky horror movie of old, has that Exorcist or Omen vibe, but with some lovely modern effects thrown in. Also it has Stringer Bell, aka Idris Elba, in it, though I only recognised his voice and not his face.

Also there’s a new lesbo romcom to look forward to (or is it more of a drama?) with the imaginative title I Can’t Think Straight. I had a bumper sticker with that once. Anyway it sounds interesting as the lead characters are a London-based Jordanian who’s about to be married, and a young British Indian Muslim woman. And they have great chemistry! Hoping this will be on at the Mardi Gras Film Fest early next year.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince won’t be out for a few more months but another trailer has just been released online and it looks awesome! Especially love the scene at the end, ha ha. These movies just seem to get better and better.

And lastly, Wendy and Lucy, a character piece about a woman and her dog, and her life falling apart, which sounds kind of grim, but seems to be an amazing performance from Michelle Williams, and I have it on good authority that the dog survives! Which is a bonus.

I watched this movie last night, and after hearing numerous bad reports, I was prepared to be disappointed. But I thought it was fantastic! As a big fan of the books, I appreciated that the adaptation was pretty faithful, aside from toning down the religious overtones a bit. Nicole Kidman was perfect as Mrs Coulter and everything was beautifully rendered… so I heartily recommend it, but if you haven’t read the books yet, do yourself a favour and read those first because they ROCK!

Have you ever read the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman? I highly recommend them. They are the most blasphemous children’s books ever created! And the first book – Northern Lights – has been made into a movie which is coming out later in the year. Of course it’s been renamed to its American title, The Golden Compass.

The first book is set in an alternate universe where humans have their soul on the outside, an external embodiment called a daemon. And the movie website now has a quiz where you can find out your own inner daemon.

Hmm, a hare, not very glamorous but perhaps appropriate? Have your say above. Not sure about the “modest” bit!

afterellen.com had an interesting post lately on the top 10 men most likely to inspire lesbians to have boy crushes. So I thought I would share my top 7 boy crushes with y’all. I couldn’t quite stretch to ten!

7. Adrian Pasdar

Despite his jaw being ridiculously wide, he has a certain all-American appeal on the show Heroes. And lovely piercing eyes. Lucky lucky Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks! (His wife)

6. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers

Impressive as the Young Lion, Henry VIII, in the new series The Tudors. Very pretty in a new wave 80′s kind of way, which is my kind of way!

5. Gael Garcia Bernal

Especially when he played a drag queen in Bad Education. Astoundingly hot Latin goodness.

4. Joaquin Phoenix

Those tormented eyes! Need I say more!

3. Christian Bale

Such dedication to his art, and such lovely eyebrows. Mysterious and possibly homicidal.

2. Josh Holloway

Something about that floppy fringe sets my heart a-flutter. That and the carefully shaped stubble.

1. Justin Timberlake

Maybe it’s the dance moves, maybe it’s the smoldering stare, or maybe it’s the association with Britney Spears, but JT is one hot dude.

Feel free to share your man crushes in the comments! And maybe one day I will delight you with the 80′s version of this list… ah Nik Kershaw…

First day back at university today. As is typical, biology was interesting but kind of waffly, and chemistry was a full-on barrage of incredibly complicated formulae which one’s brain struggled to comprehend. But having said that, I have got my results from Trimester 1 back and I can’t really complain. Say no more! Nice to be back on my scooter and the weather even cooperated with a perfect winter’s scooter-ridin’ day.

We took Archie back to have his dressing removed from his thumb today, and the good news is that it has all healed very well! He now just has to have a little bit of tape over it to give it stability, but he can have baths again and most importantly has his hand back. I think he was getting sick of being Stumpy.

I went to see Over the Hedge with the boys yesterday and thought it was excellent. That Steve Carell really is a comic genius.

Me and Jan finally watched Team America: World Police tonight and it was so fucking great. I am absolutely hysterical now from laughter, oh, and also we drank some WINE, so I might be a teensy bit tiddly. But regardless, there is something special about watching a three minute scene of a puppet vomiting. And watching most every landmark in the world exploding. And of course, surely the world’s first puppet sex scene. It may be childish – it may be stupid – but it’s damn funny.

And was it my imagination, or was Kim Jong Il basically Eric Cartman?

I shall leave you with the immortal lyrics from the aforementioned sex scene:

I need this, I need love, I need you
I don’t need one heartbeat, I need two
There’s an emptiness I need to fill
and only one emptiness will do.

Only a woman can brighten up my day
Only a woman can touch me the right way
Only a woman is allowed to touch me there
All I ask is that you’re a woman

Hmm, I might write all my posts slightly tiddly from now on, it’s quite fun…
