Just One More

My gosh, I have written so many posts today! What a prolific outputter I have become… ah quantity, not quality, that’s my motto. So why not have just one more, with the exciting news that today is Day One of my cycle, which means we’re now counting the days until Insemination #1! They blood test you to see if you’re ovulating, and my first blood test is on October 1st. I’m hoping all this no alcohol and no caffeine is paying off, and that I’m fertile as all hell…

A Handsome Catch

Thanks everyone for your comments on my last post. Seems there’s nothing like a bit of self pitying quaffle to bring out the lurkers. Your comments have made me feel a lot more positive about my writing style. I know I’m never going to be the next Dooce, but that’s not what this blog’s about! Still it’s good to have a bit of self-examination now and then. I’ll still be doing my “talking it through” experiment, and also thinking a bit more about what I’m posting. I know certain readers long for more posts about Archie, Harry and even Jan, so I’ll be trying to fulfill that need as well. But thanks again!

And no Karen, I wasn’t consciously fishing for compliments. Honestly.

Boring

I’ve realised recently that my blog is boring, not because I lead a boring self employed life, or because I am essentially boring – though both those things are probably true – but because my style of writing is inherently dull! Yes it’s true, I am a really crap writer. I thought about changing this to a podcast, but personally I don’t bother listening to them, so I can’t really assume that you will. So I’ve decided to have a new policy, which is to talk through my blog entries and then just transcribe what I just said! Yes, it’s genius, isn’t it?

Let’s see how that goes.

Blogverse Meets Actual Verse

Archie’s kindy is having a fundraising garage sale this Saturday (Wellington South Kindergarten, 103 Owen St, 9 am – 1.30 pm) and it may turn into a little bit of a blog meetup as Wanda Harland will be there with her famed coffee cart. Then straight afterwards there’s a Wellington Flickr meetup (1:30pm @ Arizona) which I’m hoping to get to as well. It’s always slightly freaky when this internet thing moves into the real world though.

New Home

Okay, after some DRAMAS with moving the site, it’s now all transferred over to the new server at Digital Pacific. Please let me know if you come across any weirdness. Hopefully all will be smooth.

We’ve got some people coming over for lunch today who are the only other lesbians in the world* with a child with Down Syndrome – and they live 40mins drive away! What are the chances? Their little girl is 9 months younger than Archie. Should be fun.

*as far as we have been able to ascertain without putting any great effort into looking

New Look Is Here

Welcome to the new look Jemsweb! I hope you enjoy it. I know many of the visitors here only come for one thing – photos of my tiny sons – and you can now find the link to the photo album over on the right. I am currently working on getting a new more efficient photo album system going, so it’s still the same old one you love. Some of the new features are the ability to add comments to my entries (scary!), a proper archive and categories of entries. All courtesy of Movable Type

Please send any feedback to me, Emily!

UPDATE: This post is completely out of date as everything is now running on yummy yummy WordPress.

Current Playlist

Added a new feature – Current Playlist. I discovered this WinAmp plugin that updates it live in realtime. Very self-indulgent. But an interesting experiment to see if it inhibits my mp3 listening – will I hesitate before playing that Britney Spears track?

New Look Site

Today I have launched the new look site. It’s my ambition to keep this news box updated with all the latest from our world plus interesting things I have come across online. Hopefully this will help keep our widely distributed circle of friends and family up to date with our goings on! Please forgive any temporary glitches as the site settles down to its new form – we will gradually bring new versions of all the pages online.

Current state of the world – waiting on settlement of our new house which may occur tomorrow or might be delayed again till Monday. Banks drive me nuts! Or as my workmate Joel just commented, ‘bankers are wankers’. Red tape is certainly slowing down our progress but the end is in sight. We have spent the last 5 weeks painting our old place and getting everything ship shape for its forthcoming rental.

Bootsy (our poor kitty who was munched by a dog) is home now and much better. Still has a hobble to his gait and some strange shaved patches but is generally adjusting well to life in the outside world after 3 weeks in hospital.

Jan and Little Jem doing well. Sleeping has just become an issue as finding a comfortable position becomes more and more difficult! I find it hard to believe that she can get much bigger but still 8 weeks to go.
