Tasmanian Holiday Pics

// April 17th, 2009 // 245 Comments » // Holidays!

It seems like the distant past, but I finally sorted out all the pics from our camper van holiday in Tasmania in January 2009.

Check them out here.

This is my favourite – sunset at the Bay of Fires on Tasmania’s east coast. A beautiful spot.

Playland of Doom

Just added a whole heap of new pics to Flickr including some long overdue ones of Harry & I on our trip to Hamilton. Basically I am clearing the decks in preparation for Archie’s birthday pics tomorrow! Yes our oldest son will be turning FIVE YEARS OLD! I am quite astonished. A bit of a milestone really. He is very excited and is having a party at Junglerama with 16 birthday guests. Jan is making loot bags for the guests as I type! In fact I better go and help wrap up the presents. Woo hoo!

In The Wars

We have had a dramatic couple of days with young master Archie. Glyn was visiting from L.A., and about two hours before we were going to take him to the airport, I managed to crush Archie’s thumb in the bathroom door, on the hinge side. It was messy, the nail was cut right across at the base and lots of blood. So off we went to A&E – poor Arch screaming his head off of course. We got seen pretty fast – due to all the screaming I’m sure – and he was given some morphine which calmed him down A LOT. In fact I have never seen him so relaxed at the hospital! Turned out his thumbnail was pretty much severed at the base, and there was a deep laceration as well. So we were referred to Hutt Hospital to the Plastics unit. Arch had surgery yesterday to stitch up the laceration, and also they reattached the thumbnail just to act as a guide for the new nail that will grow. He came out with a huge bandage up past his elbow! He recovered well from the anesthetic and was a very brave little boy. We were very exhausted as we went home, picked up Harry (thanks Max, Sophie & Helen for your childminding help!) and went to put the boys to bed at 8pm or so. Imagine our shock when Jan was pulling off Archie’s sling to get his pyjamas on, and the WHOLE BANDAGE came right off his arm, and the thumbnail was sticking up in the air again. So it was a mad dash to drop off Harry at Helen’s again and go back to A&E! The doctors decided it was not worth the risk of another general anesthetic to reattach the thumbnail, so now it is quite likely his thumbnail might grow back a bit wonky. He is all securely bandaged now and coping well with being one-armed for a while.

I’m Back

Once again I have proved to myself that if I don’t blog every day, I will fall by the side of the information superhighway in a pile of unmotivated goo. So once again I am resolved to take up the baton of bloggliness and put up a post every day, even if it is a boring link or You Tube video – but SOMETHING. Despite all the madness life is throwing at me at the moment, the blog must take priority!!

So, a quick update:

Busybusybusy. So busy. The kind of busy where you’re almost hoping you have a heart attack or a nervous breakdown becuase then at least you’re be lying down. But that’s a natural consequence of doing two papers, having two toddlers and having tons of work on I suppose. Oh, and also I have a chemistry exam tonight but am succesfully blocking that from my mind, as I haven’t had any time to study for it.

Busy being a “solo” mother while I work. Bringing up our offspring brilliantly. Doesn’t have anyone to play World of Warcraft with any more.

He’s had a horrible lurgy the last week with a rash and hoarse throat. But back at kindy today for the first time in ages. Hooray! Is currently obsessed with Madagascar and (still) Hi-5.

Cute but evil. Charming yet strongwilled. Many many tantrums interspersed with incredibly cute chattering. He has invented some new words including “hopalop” (lollipop) and “oranjinin” (orange).

I was very disappointed with the eviction of Keshia from NZ Idol last night. I don’t vote ONE WEEK and look what happens. I can’t even blame it on the Australian public like I usually do.

Actually I have a theory, votes were way down cos everyone got their Telecom bills this week, and were shocked by all those 99c calls – that’s what happened to me anyway.

Jesse better not win or I’m giving up on reality tv for good!

Speaking of reality tv, I’m very glad there’s only two weeks of Big Brother to go. Now I know who wins, it all seems like a pointless waste of 5 hours a week. But Jan has not yet suffered the disappointment of the outcome as she is spoiler free. If only she knew, she too would shun the remaining time! Alas cruel fate!

Boom Boom!

Guy Fawkes tonight! A few friends are coming over and we shall light lovely sparkly things in the backyard. They don’t do this holiday in Australia, guess it shows NZ’s “Britishness”. Jan has missed it dreadfully, as she is an incorrigible pyromaniac. Hope it doesn’t freak out the children too much.

I have added a little referral script to this site so I can see how people got here. You can have a look at the rough version. The best thing is the Google search terms that have struck this site – here are a selection:

  • oh pointy birds
  • ryan big brother sexy photos
  • sore throat with bloody looking vans
  • delta goodrem’s parents
  • drowned madonna
  • kelly osbourne’s hairstyle pictures
  • skippy’s lunchbox
  • platinum girls emily pics

I love the internet.

One Week To Go

// September 25th, 2001 // 130 Comments » // Life

Only a week to go till Jan’s due date arrives! I can’t even begin to imagine how our lives are going to change so I have decided to take it one nappy at a time. My mother Helen is arriving on Monday to lend a hand about the place. We have had our capsule installed in the car and are on the verge of buying a cot. Saw Karen & Dennis on Sunday who were heading off for a tour around Australia before they move back to Auckland – boo hoo. But we got a lot of nice furniture from them so can’t complain.

I am still obsessed with Tony Hawk Skateboarding and have also gone into a compulsive music downloading phase which strikes me from time to time! Did a bit of work round at Hugo Street last night, painting the new doors and clearing out the shed etc. It is very close to being ready to rent.

Labour Scare!

// September 20th, 2001 // 294 Comments » // Life

Had a bit of a labour scare last night – Jan started getting strange pains in her belly – we decided they might be contractions but luckily they subsided after about an hour. A little test run perhaps? Anyway it is all very motivating to get the capsule put into the car! Went to see Bridget Jones’ Diary last night and enjoyed it very much – I have an increased respect for Renee Zellweger as she was great. Have been obsessively playing Tony Hawk 2 on my Playstation and getting blisters from the controller! I hope soon to be back to my nicely calloused thumbs though.

Karen sent me a link to the Australian Vaccination Network – a site with a lot of information about the risks of vaccination. So many things to worry about!
