With my summer holidays from uni only weeks away, I’m looking forward to seeing some great movies over the break and here are a few trailers of upcoming ones that look intriguing!
The Unborn looks like a truly freaky horror movie of old, has that Exorcist or Omen vibe, but with some lovely modern effects thrown in. Also it has Stringer Bell, aka Idris Elba, in it, though I only recognised his voice and not his face.
Glyn left our place at 5:00am this morning, on his way to his new life in Los Angeles. Jan is quite sad about his emigration. But I think it’s really positive – he’ll be with the woman he loves and doing what he loves too. Besides it’s a great excuse to go to the States for a holiday!
I am halfway through Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and enjoying it a lot. Some reviewer summed it up when he said “J.K. Rowling is not a great writer. She is, however, a brilliant storyteller.” It is quite gripping even though not much has happened. And at least Harry is more sympathetic this time, not like Book 5 where I just wanted to strangle him!
Sadly I am having technical difficulties with my new 300Gb hard drive – it got totally corrupted last night and I was forced to format it. I have changed a setting in the device manager so will see if that makes any difference. Bloody hardware, ergh.

Hmm, so many, but I think I would be The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman – familiarity and strangeness blended seamlessly. The bridge between childhood and maturity.
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
A zillion television characters, but I don’t suppose they count! I can’t remember any specifically from books but I’m a rather crush-prone person, so it’s likely.

Embarrassingly, The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. I’ve been meaning to read it for ages, there’s something really satisfying about a gripping, unputdownable book even if it is opiate for the masses. Besides, it was on special at the Warehouse!

Stoner McTavish by Sarah Drerer – your typical lesbian mystery book, funny characters, a good romance.
What are you currently reading?
The aforementioned The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Getting Used to Dying by Zhangng Xianliang (a more challenging read). Teaching Reading to Children With Down Syndrome – hoping to do this with Archie this year.

To celebrate the end of my big project, Jan & I & the kids went to the mega Warehouse by the airport. And while there I saw an ACTUAL POSTER for Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince! With a release date! Somehow all the info on the internet does not seem real until one sees physical evidence, and then one can really get excited!
That morning I found a ticket on our car that had been parked outside our house! Apparently it is an infringement to be “parked facing the wrong direction” – and Wellington City Council will police this vigorously at 10:07pm on a back street of Newtown! Crazy. I won’t be doing that again, $40 has taught me my lesson.
