Katrina and the Waves

I am sad as I visited New Orleans a few years ago and it was a beautiful, astounding, atmospheric city and one of my favourite places in the USA. Not to mention its lovely people. Incredible that it is now 80% under water. It struck me as quite an impoverished city in certain areas and the looting is pretty much inevitable. Thank god they did evacuate the city though or it really would have been tsunami level of deaths. Will New Orleans ever recover though?

I hope Anne Rice is okay.

Drowned Madonna

Just had lunch with my favourite babble buddy, Anthony C.P, who very kindly picked me up a copy of Romancing the Stone at the EzyDVD sale. I really love that movie – not quite up to Raiders of the Lost Ark of course but I still found Kathleen Turner quite crushilicious as a teenager. Watched the Madonna ‘Drowned World’ concert on Channel 9 last night and enjoyed most of it. Madonna did play the guitar a little bit more than was necessary, but she looked so happy and proud while she was doing it that I just couldn’t resent her for it. I loved the little country music segment and it was great to see some really butch female dancers looking totally hot. I’m sure Maddy has a bit of a thing for a butch in braces!

Here’s a very funny clip called ‘Truth in Advertising‘ (3.3 MB) – particularly amusing if you work for an advertising agency as I do! This clip is hosted on the equally fabulous site /usr/bin/girl of which these babblings are a pale imitation.

So, how about Aaliyah dying? Read a good theory that it was the curse of the Anne Rice movie adaptation. Think about it – River Phoenix dies just before he is to film Interview With The Vampire, and now Aaliyah just after she’d filmed Queen of the Damned. Spooky!
