The Specials Are Pretty Special

If you haven’t seen the web series “The Specials” yet, you should check it out! It’s a reality show about five housemates with developmental disabilities living together in a share house in Brighton (four of the five have Down Syndrome).

It’s hilarious! I like Sam the best, he is really out there. Here’s one of my fave episodes where he falls for the Lady Boys of Bangkok:

I think it’s great to have something like this that shows people with disabilities just going about their regular lives – socially, romantically but NOT medically. The creators are trying to get money together for Season 2, so support them any way you can!

Jack Of All Trades

BASTARDY THEATRICAL TRAILER bastardydocumentary.com from BASTARDY DOCUMENTARY on Vimeo.

Great article about a very interesting documentary currently screening at Palace cinemas nationwide. Jack Charles is a critically acclaimed Aboriginal actor and also a junkie and burglar, and this young Melbourne chap spent seven years filming him.

Liking this Aussie online magazine, The Blackmail, too! http://www.theblackmail.com.au

Movies To Get Excited About

With my summer holidays from uni only weeks away, I’m looking forward to seeing some great movies over the break and here are a few trailers of upcoming ones that look intriguing!

The Unborn looks like a truly freaky horror movie of old, has that Exorcist or Omen vibe, but with some lovely modern effects thrown in. Also it has Stringer Bell, aka Idris Elba, in it, though I only recognised his voice and not his face.

The Wire Is Freaking Awesome

I am currently completely obsessed with the US TV series, The Wire. Yes, I know I’m a bit late as it just wrapped up at the end of its fifth season. But it is great plowing through the DVDs – about to start on Season 3. It is such a great show, really lets its characters develop properly, and fascinating portrayal of a city. The main theme is essentially how human beings are shaped by the politics and structure of organisations, like a police department, a drug dealing gang, or a waterfront union. I highly recommend it! Be warned, you will be swearing like a motherf**ker after watching, mos def.

Recommended: The Golden Compass

I watched this movie last night, and after hearing numerous bad reports, I was prepared to be disappointed. But I thought it was fantastic! As a big fan of the books, I appreciated that the adaptation was pretty faithful, aside from toning down the religious overtones a bit. Nicole Kidman was perfect as Mrs Coulter and everything was beautifully rendered… so I heartily recommend it, but if you haven’t read the books yet, do yourself a favour and read those first because they ROCK!

Mr G – Naughty Girl Official Video

The following music video features home video footage sent in by fans of Mr G from all across Australia. It’s pretty hilarious. And it features my favourite chap, Toby, in a fetching shirt that reads “Do Me – I’m Famous”. GO TOBES!

Bitch Is The New Black

Check out this great clip where Tina Fey endorses Hillary on SNL.

Daemon!

Have you ever read the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman? I highly recommend them. They are the most blasphemous children’s books ever created! And the first book – Northern Lights – has been made into a movie which is coming out later in the year. Of course it’s been renamed to its American title, The Golden Compass.

The first book is set in an alternate universe where humans have their soul on the outside, an external embodiment called a daemon. And the movie website now has a quiz where you can find out your own inner daemon.

Hmm, a hare, not very glamorous but perhaps appropriate? Have your say above. Not sure about the “modest” bit!

Lost In Bittorrent

Only 2 hours and 17 minutes until the final episode of Lost Season 2 is downloaded to my computer! I am very excited. Three months ago I’d never watched a single episode. Then I watched Season 1 on DVD and after that was compelled to download all of Season 2 week by week. What can I say, I’m a sucker for “mythology” shows.
