Genius YouTube Idea

I just uploaded my first ever cheesy fan music video to YouTube (embedded below, but I warn you, very cheesy and probably of interest to NO ONE I KNOW) and was struck by an idea as I carefully entered all my disclaimers about “I don’t own this content blah blah blah”.

Why doesn’t YouTube allow uploaders to enter in the video copyright holder and enter in the audio copyright holder? Then those copyright holders could be notified and approve or disapprove the use of their material. If they approve, they get a portion of the Google ads proceeds from the video or can place in their own ad eg “buy this video here” or “watch more of this here”.

YouTube sort of does this by automagically detecting songs and putting in the iTunes link (I was quite impressed that it correctly identified my soundtrack) but why not give the uploaders the opportunity to do the right thing and the copyright owners the chance to make some money and promote their products in new ways?

Just a thought… and now the cheesy video!

Yet Another New Theme

I’ve updated to this fantastic theme which is exactly what I was looking for. Much LESS emphasis on my infrequent blog posts and much more on my other internet activity.

The theme is called Seven Five and you can get it for free from Press75, along with a heap of fabulous premium themes. Thanks to Jason for such an awesome concept!

Caveats – my Lifestream page still needs a lot of tweaking, I want to add quite a few more widgets to the home page and I can’t quite work out how to add Previous and Next buttons to the blog post listings. But apart from that: AWESOME, right?

Okay, I’m saying awesome too much. Shutting up now.

New Theme!

I upgraded to WordPress 3.0 and decided to switch to its default theme for a while. I am on the hunt for a more “lifestreaming” theme as most of my online activity nowadays is in other places than this blog! (as you may have noticed).

Anyway it’s a good chance to try out some of the WordPress 3.0 features.

My Viral Video

Just discovered that this YouTube clip of mine has had 32,000 hits thanks to Jan commenting on the ram, “They’re very horny, aren’t they?”.

Weirdness!

Traumatising Children With Sarah Haskins

Harry has been greatly affected by the accidental viewing (on his mother’s iPhone) of a Sarah Haskins podcast. For those not familiar with Sarah, she does a weekly biting satire of US commercials aimed at women on various topics, “Target: Women”.

Here’s the podcast in question:

Lessons Harry has learned from this video:

- “My boobs are jealous of my butt” is the most hilarious phrase ever uttered and should be repeated at 5 minute intervals throughout the day. Or “Stupid butt!” is an acceptable alternative.
- Calling someone a “super hot sex babe” is also very funny
- Husbands are idiots
- The “digestive system” is something to be feared, especially when lying in your bed late at night, as it may crawl in and attack you at any moment with lightning bolts

Yet another reason you shouldn’t let your 6 year old near your iPhone.

Nerd Venn Diagram

I’m not sure whose diagram this is, but it is SO perfect I had to put it up here.

I think I swing between Nerd and Geek depending on how shy I’m feeling that day.

PS Spotted this at the excellent feminist science blog, Vagina Dentata. Check it out.

Two Blogs Are Better Than One?

I’m proud to announce the birth of a new blog I’ve started called Lesbian Of The Day. The basic aim is to feature one famous lesbian a day in order to increase positive visibility of successful, interesting and happy lesbians out there. I know when I was a young dykeling, positive images of lesbians were few and far between and I would have loved a site like this (well, any site really since the internets weren’t around then). Don’t expect any fantastic writing or analysis, I’m just gonna put up a big picture and say a few words.

Here’s the lucky lesbians of the days so far:

A New Era – Posterous

Maybe a “new era” is a little strong, but I am trying out a new service called Posterous (http://posterous.com/). It basically posts anything that you email to it – text, music, photos and video. And then automagically updates this WordPress installation with it. We’ll see how it goes!

Also I have installed a great new theme that is a bit more in keeping with my current style of blogging: NOT blogging but updating Twitter and Facebook a lot. It is an awesome free predesigned theme from WooThemes – thanks guys! You can see it and more here: http://www.woothemes.com/2009/02/irresistible/.

Hopefully with Posterous and this new theme, this website will become less of a total embarrassment and easier for me to maintain. Thanks for sticking around!
