Welcome to the World, Bubble

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Just got the news that our very good friends Karen & Dennis have just welcomed their daughter into the world! And here she is having her cord cut…

Currently known as Bubble, she was born at home, everyone happy and well. Hurrah! Congratulations to all, especially Fred - I know you’ll be a great big brother.

Mini Me

Monday, February 27th, 2006

Just did this cool face recognition thingy thanks to Wanda H, and discovered that I am a clone of Lara Flynn Boyle.

I even have a sweater EXACTLY like that one.
And if I wasn’t Lara, the next closest is Jacqueline Bisset:

I must try that hairstyle.

So Tired

Monday, February 27th, 2006

I had to work all weekend, until 1am last night. Then get up for a 9am chemistry lecture - my first day of Semester 1. And guess what? They gave us an assignment that’s due in on Friday. Oh joy. A lot of spotty first years - 250 in our class - but I’m just […]

Yay!

The exam was pretty easy! So I’m happy.

Onwards and Upwards

Friday, February 24th, 2006

Our four days in the lab have come to an end. It was a bit of an eye-opener. I can see I will have to get a lot more careful and coordinated if I am to become a successful chemist.
Things I learned:
It’s good to know the substance you are dealing with
Better to take things slowly […]

First Day In The Lab

Monday, February 20th, 2006

Spent 9am to 4pm today in the undergraduate chemistry laboratory. It was fine to start with, heating various substances in test tubes over a bunsen burner, pretty much what I’d expected. The afternoon got fiddly, trying to measure a volume of water to 0.01 mL accuracy in a pipette! It required co-ordination and patience, neither […]

The Bunnies Are Safe

Friday, February 17th, 2006

Just received my course notes for Cell Biology which includes instructions for all the lab work. Looks like the most living thing I’ll be cutting up is a rhubarb plant! And a bit of fiddling with human blood and mouse intestinal cells - but the main thing is, no cutting up of actual corpses.
I’m sure […]

Outlook Outrage

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

In December I switched to Thunderbird for my emails, and am happy as pie with it. Only one problem - somehow when I imported my addresses from Outlook, it corrupted my PST file and now I can’t access any emails prior to December!
In a way this is quite liberating - I had so many […]

Obligatory L Word Post

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006

The L Word is very good at the moment. I die everytime Bette comes on the screen! She is so hot!! Jennifer Beals is an excellent actress too. (Time to rewatch Flashdance?)
It is very explicit though isn’t it? I remember when we got excited when tv showed two women lying in the same bed talking. […]

Bio-Chem

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

I just got all my textbooks for my first semester courses. They are SO heavy and huge. Luckily I’m only doing two papers, or I think I would need chiropractic help to carry them all around.
The books themselves are very glamorous though. Especially the biology one, which seems to cover everything from cell biology to […]
