Katrina and the Waves

// September 1st, 2005 // News

I am sad as I visited New Orleans a few years ago and it was a beautiful, astounding, atmospheric city and one of my favourite places in the USA. Not to mention its lovely people. Incredible that it is now 80% under water. It struck me as quite an impoverished city in certain areas and the looting is pretty much inevitable. Thank god they did evacuate the city though or it really would have been tsunami level of deaths. Will New Orleans ever recover though?

I hope Anne Rice is okay.

    Well, of course only the black people are looting – the white people are merely finding things. According to AP photos anyway.

    BTW…katrina and the waves hit ‘walking on sunshine’ must go down as the happiest song ever written. Don’t try dancing to it….it never stops and can only be danced to in frrantic madman styles.

    I love that song – in the video Katrina looks like a deranged happy British Airways steward. Did you know that they wrote the original of “Going Down To Liverpool”, later made famous by the Bangles? I have far too much Eighties music trivia in my brain.

    when the hurricane got, er… famous and destructive, i was orf my tiny trolley at a festival and therefore oblivious (lucky me). i do recall seeing in passing somebody’s tabloid newspaper and the frontpage headline was indeed “katrina and the waves” and i thought to myself ‘totally sweet! they are re-forming to tour (like everyone else from the past) and it is front page news cos “walking on sunshine” is genuinely everyone in the entire world’s fave tune’. sadly of course when i got home i found out that wasn’t the real news at all – bummer all round for everyone, especially the gulf coast…
