We all trucked out to Plimmerton this morning for the Wellington Down Syndrome Association’s monthly coffee morning. Normally such events fill me with dread but it was actually bloody good fun. The kids ran about for two hours entertaining themselves, and we got to meet some very nice and funny new people whom we had something big in common with. There was even another *lesbian* there! And some amazing home made chocolate cake.

On the way home in the car, Jan and I were trying to work out what was different from similar meetings we attended in Australia. Somehow we felt much more comfortable. Maybe it’s just some indefinable “amongst your own kind” feeling. I think perhaps Kiwis are just more relaxed! And maybe a little kookier!
