Just back from the dentist. A week or so ago I cracked my tooth on a piece of Vogel’s toast - ouch - but it still tasted good through the pain. Oliver is my new dentist (after the incomparable Jennifer Chiew in Sydney) and he seems to be very up with the cool new technology stuff. He had a little digital camera that he stuck in my mouth and took close up pics of the tooth in question, which were then displayed on a monitor and discussed with me. Also he had digital x-rays, which apparently require less radiation and are instant - like click - and there they are.

Unfortunately the news that all this technology revealed was that I needed a crown on my tooth, and he talked me into a gold one - because a) it is tough as all hell and very permanent and b) it can be made thinner than a porcelain one so I can keep more of my original non-gold molar.

I’m actually quite excited by my forthcoming bling mouth - not so excited at the $1200 price tag though. But I guess my heirs can melt it down when I die!
