Giving MT the Flickr

Well, after much soul searching I have decided to switch over to Flickr to host all my photos. There are so many good features such as viewing slideshows, ability to download high res versions and the great community that is there, amongst others. I recommend all my friends sign up so we can share photos and be merry! I am happy to pay for the bonus extra features as I am paying anyway for the webspace to host so many pics here - it’ll actually save me money.

Here is my new Flickr photo page. Have been spending some time transferring old photos to it.

And then this morning I got an email that an American urban planning magazine wants to use my photo Urban Cows in their next issue! No payment but credit and a copy of the mag - crossing fingers that the Art Director likes it. So Flickr could be the start of a whole new career, heh heh.

Anyway, now that decision’s made I will be switching to WordPress as soon as I get round to it - yes I’m afraid the template will be changing to the WordPress default as I am over this one already. Exciting!

Nice cow picture. All that uploading must be a bit tedious. Your icon pic is so cute!

Ah yes, those were the days, cuteness came so effortlessly… I downloaded the Flickr uploader tool which lets you upload huge batches of pics at once, it’s pretty handy. Wanted to get a few in before the end of the month y’see.

Can I ask what the pain level was putting the photo’s into Flickr?

I currently use Hello (from Google) to upload into my bog (also owned by Google) which works fine BUT I like the extra cool things Flickr offers.

Flickr is actually really easy to use, there is a little program you can download which does uploading in the background and lets you upload heaps at a time. Then it’s just naming and tagging them. I have managed to upload about 550 photos over a couple of days.

But as Jess warns, you do have to pay if you want to upload more than 10MB per month. I decided to pay so I could get my back catalogue up there.

I like Flickr, my only concern is that it seems to slow down a lot around 5:30pm (when the Americans come online?) Hopefully they will keep upgrading the bandwidth as I think it will become really popular.

    That’s my 20 cents!

Great cow picture, no wonder the magazine wants it. However did they find it, do you know?

I have no idea! They must have been searching for “cow” “city” or something! It had only been up there about 4 hours when they emailed me.

Thanks Em - will give it a go but also keep Hello as it doesn’t have the threat of “pay money” hanging over it.
