Momentous Weekend Of Doom!

Weekend wrapup, tra la la.

Friday night, NN babysat and we went out to Ponsonby, had a nice dinner at an Indian place and then a quick drink at one of Auckland’s few gay bars, a spot called “Surrender Dorothy“. It was very cute, had high heeled shoes stuck to the ceiling, but it was tiny! Like a living room turned into a bar. Full though. Sam arrived late Thursday night for a weekend of gigs and stuff. He was supporting Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy on the Friday (a solo gig, not with TPF) but it was sold out so we couldn’t go.

Saturday Sam was very hung over! We went to see a cool house in Massey, on about 17 acres with 7 bedrooms plus a separate 2 bedroom house. Amazing old place that used to be the Royal Institute for the Blind in Parnell but was moved up to this hill about 10 years ago. It’s a huge ornate Parnell-style villa. We REALLY loved it but sadly there is an offer or contract or something already out on it. The agent will know by tonight whether that’s going through or not. If it is available it could definitely swing us to stay in NZ I fear. I gave Sam a hand moving a Rhodes and some other band stuff to the Saturday night gig, a nice change from moving babies - rock’n'roll! Sadly just a passing illusion of coolness… ;-)

On Sunday there was a family expedition up to Leigh (about 1hr 20m north) to see Sam and TPF do an afternoon gig. It was a really cool venue, this place called the Leigh Sawmill Cafe - great for kids and had accomodation there too. Sam did a solo set and then a TPF set, perfect! Those guys are really amazing, I can’t wait for the new album I must say!
