Disaster

// September 24th, 2004 // Life

Geez, sorry about all the teen sex comment spam, I dunno what’s happened there. Difficult to monitor from here I’m afraid! And my superduper de-spammer seems to not be working.

Unfortunately a tragedy has been suffered in Shanghai, I left my nearly brand new digital camera in a taxi! Argh!!! I realised about 3 minutes later but he had already driven off. The concierge finally got hold of him (thanks to video camera footage of his driver license!) but he said there was no camera there… who knows. So I am very sad to lose it and also all the photos that were on it from yesterday, and also my brand new 512MB card. Ned has kindly given me his digicam to use (since he has an SLR as well), so I will be able to take pics for the rest of the trip… but woe! Woe is me!

Trying to put it out of my mind and concentrate on enjoying holiday now.

We did have a great day yesterday up until that point – went all around the Old Town, it was really amazing – narrow lanes and dangling cooked ducks and washing hanging from the power lines. Then to the antiques market with lots of Mao memorabilia and brass monkeys. Finally the bird and insect market, mostly insects but none that seemed edible. There was a roaring trade going in fighting crickets, NZ$100 for a pair!

Today Max is keen to go to the Shanghai Zoo, and then might go to Grand Prix practice this afternoon – then it’ll be Grand Prix all Saturday and Sunday. It’s a huge event, sold out, should be an experience anyway.

Oh and Jan, I can’t seem to open your email – alas, will try again from another computer.

    Bugger me. Does any one of you have travel insurance which can cover the camera? I hope so. There must be some way to fix this up!
    Glad you’re having a great time otherwise. Love to all of you.
