Had a great weekend. We stayed on the island as Karen Dennis & Fred came over to stay with us. Karen has never been here so they grabbed the opportunity for a sunroom bed. We had pleasant breakfasts and walks on the beach. Fred showed Archie the joys of jumping in muddy puddles with your gumboots on. Karen & I did an exhaustive drive around the island, and I now have a grip on the geography, and also feel confident that our house is in the best part of it! Yesterday Jan, Dennis & I went on an expedition to Stony Batter, at the eastern tip of the island, where the biggest network of WWII defensive tunnels and gun emplacements in NZ was built. We were the only ones there and had great fun making scary noises in the tunnels. I got vertigo for the first time ever on the steps down from a gun emplacement, it was rather nerve wracking! All in all a lovely holiday weekend, thanks Booker Malcolms for the pleasure of your company.
I found the Waiheke Library this morning, I am going to sign up as there is only one bookshop on the island and it is rather bare on books. Perhaps here is a good spot to open my dream bookshop?
I am slowly adding more photos, I have got so behind – many apologies. On the positive digital front, I have learned how to make Quicktime VRs with my Canon. Now I just have to figure out how to make them small enough for this website and then you can all have lovely virtual tours of our little Waiheke bach.
