Lazarus!

An albatross feared to have died in an international bird race over the Indian Ocean has reappeared on radars after two weeks with no signal.

Her transmitter burst back into life yesterday and she is again leading the race.

Eighteen shy albatross were electronically tagged for their migration from Tasmania to South Africa.

A betting race is being run by Ladbrokes, with celebrities sponsoring the birds.

Aphrodite, which is being sponsored by former supermodel Jerry Hall, disappeared from radar screens nearly two weeks ago and race officials feared she had fallen to long line fishing boats.
