Well, I guess it’s time I told the world that Jan & I & the boys are going to be heading off to New Zealand for six months at the end of May / beginning of June. We’re going to rent out our house, go and rent somewhere in Auckland and see what it’s like. Hopefully I can keep working contracts for the same clients - just going to buy a laptop so I can be mobile. We are going to travel round NZ a bit as well, checking out other towns and lifestyles.

Why? Well, ever since Jan & I arrived in Australia, we’ve been wondering if we should leave again! But now we’ve got kids, it won’t be as easy as just moving back, not liking it, coming back to Sydney and so on. So we figured that before the boys start school (which is when your national identity starts to develop I think), we could just go over for a trial period and see what it’s like basically - an extended working holiday. There are many things we need to suss out - like services for Archie, attitudes towards lesbian parents, the weather! And so on. We’re not thinking about the long term implications at the moment but just want to have our trial and then see if we actually do want to seriously consider moving back.

So that’s the story, I hope everyone can understand and there’s a very good chance we may be straight back, signing up for our Australian citizenship and never leaving again!

There’s a lot to do before we leave of course, selling cars and extra stuff, packing things up, and Jan wants to do the Harbour Bridge climb before she leaves.
